So you're probably wondering what the logic is behind the CodeClimbers Weekly Report Card.

If so, you've made it to the right place.

What is the Weekly Report Card?

The Weekly Report Card grades you using a framework that emphasizes growth and continuous learning. This is great for software developers who are hungry to improve and get better. If you are content with where you're at as a dev and don't really care, this probably isn't for you.

The framework grades you on four criteria, giving you an overall score on 10-point scale::

1 - Deep Work
The amount of time you spend in deep concentration on a productive task. Earn up to 2.5 points.

2 - Coding
The amount of time you spend coding, by project. Earn up to 2.5 points.

3 - Growth & Mastery
The amount of time you spend consuming content to further your growth and skills as a developer (blogs, docs, tutorials, courses, etc.). Earn up to 2.5 points.

4 - Active Hours
The total amount of time you spend on your device overall (useful in preventing burn out). Earn up to 2.5 points.

Everyone's circumstances are different so this isn't a perfect framework by any means. But we hope it is helpful in giving some constructive feedback on how you spend your time.

The ultimate goal of CodeClimbers is to help you reach your maximum potential as a developer. We believe a focus on these categories can help.

Full Points Breakdown

Unlike the thumbnail suggests, the math is pretty simple. You are graded on a 10-point scale. Each category has a max score of 2.5 points. This is how it breaks down:

Deep Work

  • 3+ avg hours per week day = 2.5 pts

  • 2-3 avg hours per week day = 2 pts

  • 1-2 avg hours per week day = 1 pts

  • <1 avg hours per week day = 0.5 pts

Coding

  • At least one project with 5+ total hours = 2.5 pts

  • At least one project with 3-5 total hours = 2 pts

  • At least one project with 1-3 total hours = 1 pts

  • At least one project with <1 total hours = 0.5 pts

Growth & Mastery

  • >5 hours learning/growth in the week = 2.5 pts

  • 3-5 hours learning/growth in the week = 2 pts

  • 1-3 hours learning/growth in the week = 1 pts

  • <1 hours learning/growth in the week = 0.5 pts

Active Hours

  • 20 to 50 hours = 2.5 pts

  • 50 to 60 hours = 2 pts

  • 60+ hours = 0.5 pts

  • <20 hours = 0.5 pts

Note: You get at least 0.5 pts on each section because you get credit for showing up :)

Other Note: Deep Work average is based on "week days," so we only take your 5 highest days of Deep Work from the week. Gotta take time to rest and renew!

Other Other Note: Jk, that is all.
